There was a time not that many years ago when, for a while, the cell phone just might have failed but it has re-invented itself to become the most important of technological developments in the twentieth century.

Manufacturers, it seems, develop cell-phones now with facilities that are aimed purely at the younger generation because they are more likely to want to change their phone as each new model is launched. Although the cell-phone boom may not have been expected to this degree, the manufacturers have been very quick to improve the cell-phone beyond all recognition to what it once was.

Already the sale and use of landline phones has decreased, despite the global reduction in call costs, as cell phones become ever more useful. There has always been a need to individualize each phone and manufacturers have come up with unique ways to achieve this with an enormous variety of ring tones and screen backgrounds called cellular phone wallpaper.

Now, changing your wallpaper couldn’t be easier with web sites set up just for this purpose. Not only can modern phones communicate between each other which makes transferring screen wallpaper a simple process but it can even be created and shared using the cell-phones digital camera. If you prefer you can use an image you have captured previously on your own digital camera but the set up can take a bit more time.

If that is not enough, just to personalize the cellular phone wallpaper a little more, an individual text message can be displayed on the image. Still, even if you have an older cell-phone that does not support all this new technology, it does not mean you cannot enjoy your cell-phone. Still, even if your model cannot accept new screen backgrounds, it may well accept ring tones which will give you that personal touch. The ability to change backgrounds and ring tones is for many just the icing on the cake so as long as it can make calls, that is enough.

Not everyone is obsessed with customizing their cell phone though and only require that it performs the tasks it was originally designed for, i.e. making calls. Text messages are a prime example of this because you can send one without anything else being needed. I suppose it is nice to be able to customize with cellular phone wallpapers but wouldn’t you prefer one that worked as well and didn’t just impress other people?

Although not remembered these days, you should always exhibit good telephone etiquette and not use your phone when it disturbs others. Your phone should complement you and not be an extension of yourself as it you that people will decide whether or not has any social etiquette.

No matter how technologically advanced your cell-phone is, it still comes with an off switch which many people will be glad you use if you are in a meeting for example. The type of wallpaper will not impress people as much as you turning your phone off in a meeting and may induce others to copy your good cell-phone etiquette. Respect is a two way street so to have respect from others means you have to earn it and then there is the opportunity that others around you will copy your lead.
