There isn’t any hard fast rule to beating Blackjack. If there were, everyone would be doing it and Vegas would be broke. But there are a few tips and strategic guidlines that can give you the edge you need to go home a winner. These tips are not by any means rules, nor should they be treated as such. Blackjack is a game of odds, there is no ’surefire’ way to win, but the following will help.
The name of the game is Blackjack or 21. Many players feel the need to hit 21 on every hand and that is the worst choice if they want to win. The number 21 is a fabled fluke that will hit naturally once in a while. This hand is not one to be aiming for. The player need only aim to beat the dealer and not the odds.
Now that you are convinced to beat the dealer, the rules of the game can come into play. The dealer will hit on his or her hand if they are showing a 6 or lower as the up card. So, no matter what the bottom card may be, the dealer will have to hit on what is called a soft 17.
Assume that the dealer has a ten for his face down card, as his chances of having a card with the value of 10 is greater than any other value. If the dealer’s up card is a six, five, or four; he has a greater chance of busting since he would need a 7 or lower value to avoid the bust. With all the cards in the deck, he has about a 45% of drawing a card that would prevent him from busting, and only a 30% chance of not having to draw another card.
When the dealer is holding a 7, 8, 9, 10, or face card you will be able to deduce what the hidden card value may be. If the dealer takes a card, the total must be a soft 17 or lower. IF the dealer does not take a card, they certainly have a hard 17 or greater. When the dealer does not take a card and you are showing a 15 or greater, a fold is the best choice. If you have a 14 or less, hit the hand.
If the dealer shows a 2 or 3, the game rules require a hit of at least one card. This hand value presents the dealer with a great chance of hitting an 18, 19, 20 or 21.The chances of the dealer needing a second card is less than 30%. This hand leaves the player in the position to hit on 14 or lower and stay or fold on 15 or greater.
There is one ’surefire’ tip to being a winner if you are already winning at Blackjack, and it is quite simple; quit while you are ahead. If you walk out of the casino holding more money than you had going in, you are a winner.
If you sit at the table getting greedy and hoping to win more and more; you are bound to end up dissapointed. A greedy player is one that will go off hunches and feelings. Blackjack is about odds and math, and very simple math at that.
