How often have you seen a tribal tattoo upon someone who is walking down the street? Or looked through a tattooists designs and seen a huge array of different tribal tattoo designs available to you. This is because the tribal tattoo design alone is quite popular, but as part of a piece, tattooists often find it is even more popular.

But why are they so popular? Once tribal tattoos were not universal. They were given to members of a certain tribe in order to show that they belonged. The design differed from tribe to tribe, sometimes including extra designs to show position in a tribe too. Now they are not only popular within tribal communities, but with everyone.

Tribe tattoos were original given to members usually as a right of passage was reached. Such rights of passages included the change from childhood to adulthood, or even marriages. In fact, quite often the tribal patterns which are drawn in a ring are wedding tattoos. The ring symbolizing the eternal, and unbreakable connection between the couple.

The most popular form of tribal tattoo in today’s society is actually the Celtic tribal tattoo design. Or, to be more specific, the tattoos which were commonly used by druidic practitioners in Celtic tribes.

The Celtic tribal tattoo designs are no longer specifically worn by druids, however, when they are they are not for decoration and beauty, but are instead used within magical rituals which are performed by the druids. It is said that these tattoos are hidden signals which can be used to activate spells.

As is the lure with the Celtic tribal tattoo design of the Celtic cross. A cross which is entirely made from intricately woven lines, this is perhaps the most popular tattoo design of modern day.
