Obedience training is essential for the well being of your dog. The trust and bond it creates will last a lifetime. It is simple to train your dog, even a cat canbe trained by a dog.
My Grandmother, who was affectionately called Nana by everyone, was an animal lover. If she had no pets of her own she adopted every dog and cat in the neighborhood. But at this time she had pets. She had a little white untrimmed poodle named Peggy and a big red cat named Buddy Boy. All her red cats were Buddy something or something Buddy. She was particularly fond of red cats. To her, there were cats, then there were RED cats.
For a while she could not figure out why there were little piles of dog biscuits piled up around the four legs of the dining room table. How was this possible, she wondered for weeks on end. Each time she found the stash of dog biscuits she would put them back in the box, only to find them reappear around the table legs.
She thought the kids were playing a joke on her. She waited behind the kitchen door the discover the truth. No one fell into her trap.
One day she caught the criminal duo in the act. Nana was washing dishes. The dog biscuits were kept under the sink. There sneaking up to the sink was Buddy Boy, her orange cat. He reached into the box of treats. Pulled out a biscuit and handed it to Peggy, the poodle. She ran into the dining room. Deposited her biscuit then went back to the kitchen sink ready to receive another.
Buddy Boy was well trained. If a dog and a cat can train each other. You should have no difficulty training your dog.
There are many techniques used in obedience training. The method that works best depends on your dogs personality.
I have found that using food when training your dog is a good method for a dog that values food. Other dogs prefer playtime or affection.
As long as you are patient and stick to the program you will be successful training your dog.
