Have you ever wanted your hair to be longer, fuller and thicker? Have you tried every shampoo and conditioner on the market, yet your hair still looks the same? If so, hair extensions are a great option for you! The technology behind hair extensions has improved over the years, offering women more choices than ever before. There are now a variety of tools and chemicals available, different methods of attaching the extension hair, and many more style possibilities.
There are three types of extensions, which are categorized by the way the extension is applied: clip-in extensions, bonded or sewn weft extensions, and strand-by-strand extensions. Clip-in extensions offer the most ease and flexibility because they can be put in and taken out whenever the client pleases. Since the growth of your hair doesn’t affect the clip-in extensions, they can last forever if properly cared for.
Weft extensions are applied in the form of a track. A ”track” is a piece of hair that is bonded on one end and free-flowing on the other. Wefts have a curtain-like appearance before they are applied. They can be applied by using glue or by sewing the weft onto a braid or cornrow.
The last method for attaching extensions is called ‘’strand-by-strand”. With this method, the extension hair is applied in small sections of fifty to several hundred hairs. To keep the hair in place, glues, polymers, or clamping devices (such as micro links) are used. This method takes the longest to complete but offers the most subtle results.
Strand-by-strand extensions can be added either with an adhesive substance or a clamping device. Some people prefer adhesive attachment because the extensions look more natural, while others prefer a clamping device, because it’s less damaging to your hair.
Here are some hair extension tips to keep in mind:
* The topic of extensions can be confusing. There are so many brand-name application methods that differ by the materials used and the type of extension hair. If you have any questions about the types of extensions available, just ask your stylist.
* To extend the life of your extensions, make sure you wash and condition them on a regular basis. A good rule of thumb is every 2-3 days. To be certain, ask you stylist what he or she recommends for your weave.
* If you’re going for a natural look, it’s best to stick with human hair extensions. Human hair will blend best with your natural hair. If you want crazy colors, you will probably have a better selection with synthetic hair.
* Many people don’t realize how heavy extensions can be. Make sure to talk with your salon professional about what you can expect from the added weight of your new extensions.
* Some glues or adhesives used to attach extensions can cause allergic reactions, so make sure to let your stylist know about any allergies you have.
