The first German Shepherd was named Hektor. Hektor was thought to be an excellent example of a sheep herding dog and in 1899 a German named Rittmeister Max von Stephanitz renamed Hektor, Horand von Grafath, and registered him as the first German Shepherd in the German Shepherd Dog Club of Germany. Von Stephanitz brought the breed back into popularity so much that approximately 48,000 German Shepherds were “enlisted” in World War I.

Knowing how to behave well in the world or in your home is not something that comes naturally to your pup, as they are not born with the understanding of house rules. When there is a dog that is considered bad, the blame should be put on the owner and not the dog because the dog that is bad has not had proper training or guidance and they are only doing what comes naturally to them. While it is best to read up on German Shepherd obedience training before you bring your pup home, it is never too late to start.

Unfortunately not everyone treats their pets in a humane manner and sometimes pets can get abused or abandoned and denied of their chance at a good life. When that happens you need to get the poor animal to a German Shepherd rescue centre right away. If you don’t know how to find a German Shepherd rescue centre there are several ways you can use to track one down but the important thing is getting the abandoned or abused animal into a situation where it can be helped if it needs attention and then put into a good and loving home.

If you know anything at all about the current pet overpopulation crisis in the country, then you are already planning to adopt a homeless animal rather than buy from a pet store or a breeder. You already know that incredible pets can often be found at animal shelters and breed specific rescue centers. By doing your homework and learning all you can about different dog breeds, you have enough German Shepherd information to know if a German Shepherd is right for you and your family.

As an athletic, energetic and bonding pet the German Shepherd makes an excellent pet for individual or family owners. The breed also has high trainability as a search and rescue dog or a police dog. It is important to consider health and breed standards when selecting between German Shepherd puppies for sale. The Black German Shepherd has retained the more traditional look of a German Shepherd through the years. This is one of the main differences between the Black German Shepherd and the regular German Shepherd. The Black German Shepherd is also larger with a much straighter back and it does not “cringe”. Cringing is an appearance that is common to German Shepherds. The coat of a Black German Shepherd can be long or short. It can also have feathering and skirting with a flowing mane.

When raising a German Shepherd pup, you want to be careful that the techniques you use will be beneficial to your puppy not only for their safety, but for the safety of you and your loved ones. German Shepherd Puppies are protective by nature so they are generally a fantastic addition to a family’s home. But, you want to make sure that they are protective over their family when strangers come around, instead of being protective of them around you. You can pretty much count on every breed of dog to have its own types of behavioral issues that need to be addressed. Luckily for you the German Shepherd is an extremely intelligent breed of dog that would much prefer making its human family happy than almost anything else in the world. Many German Shepherd problem behaviors can be avoided by simply spending time with your German Shepherd and helping it to learn new behaviors to override its instincts.
