In the conventional Western practice of medicine, there’s a pill for everything. America has long felt that the nation should give as much thought to purchasing a brand-new pair of shoes as they do to their medical treatment. Doctors are more inclined to prescribe pills for anything that troubles you, and drug companies make billions annually on newfangled “curatives.” Nonetheless, there are a lot of unfavorable reactions to many of the drugs prescribed and some even lead to death - over 100,000 reported in the United States annually.
Cure or Cause?
In today’s world, there seems to be hundreds of thousands of diseases out there, and there’s a pill prescribed for each and every one of them. However, with all of the deaths that are occurring there, you have to ask yourself just how are these helping? We treat our major diseases like cancer, heart disease and diabetes. But all of these diseases that have medications are still on the rise, and deaths due to adverse reactions happen daily.
Side Effects from Prescription Drug Use
What are some of the harmful effects of prescription drugs? Check out this partial list:
Inability to sleep Inability to drive an automobile Liver problems Reduced gastrointestinal function Medication dependence Risk of stroke, heart attack or cancer Kidney damage Increased chance of stroke Hair loss increase …and death!
There is Hope
We’ve talked about all of the side effects and possible side effects that you can have when popping pills. You may be wondering if there’s any hope out there that works or if there is a better way to approach the situation. I’m going to say, of course there is! One of the first things you have to look at is what you are eating. Doctors have been telling you for years to pay attention to your eating choices. They’ve also started to encourage people to live a healthier lifestyle and include things like more raw foods, lowering stress, and adding exercise to their daily routine. Everyone knows that taking these three steps will increase their quality of life, but most people find this solution less exciting than trying out a new fad diet or looking for the latest quick fix. It is still, however, some of the best advice that you’re going to get. So what does that mean? Well, you could say you are what you eat and that would be very true.
Diets just don’t work
Most people eventually reached the idea that there is no magic formula to instantly go from unhealthy to healthy. With that said, it takes gradual changes to get the best results, because most people can take small steps towards a healthier lifestyle. Calorie counting is part of it, but that’s not the only thing involved. If you really want to make a lifestyle change, start replacing your processed foods with healthy fruits and vegetables that you can get from your supermarket. Look carefully at the fruits and vegetables that you’re getting to make sure that they’re not altered or have pesticides and other chemicals in them. One well-known cancer-causing agent is wax on apples so avoid those in the grocery store.
Stick with proven techniques to reduce stress
Scientific studies have shown that there is a link between stress reduction and regular meditation. You can take a free class in almost any major city, and if you can’t find one. There are many guided meditations available online. Start by meditating about five minutes per day, and include some deep breathing. It will amaze you, the difference you’ll feel by meditating just five minutes a day.
Deciding to take action is the best thing you can do. Knowing that prescription drugs are not all that they are cracked up to be, take steps to get into optimal health through exercise and eating right, while at the same time reducing your stress levels.
